I rarely take my bike on the train in the Netherlands. I use OV Fiets instead.

In general, I don't think that bikes on trains is scalable; they take up too much space. They also consume elevator time that should be for people who need the elevator.

I would rather see NS expand OV Fiets (add more bikes, electric bikes, bikes with kids' seats, etc.) rather than trying to make it easier to take personal bike on the train.

Sometimes there is progress, but other times there is not.

I've had people point to US cities and show me the 30 miles of new protected bike lanes as an example of progress.

Meanwhile it took them 15 years to build them and in that time they built a new freeway and demolished 300 acres of farmland to build suburbs.

That's not "progress."

When I started my channel I was sick of "urbanist" content being so passive and mealymouthed.

Everything was always hedged with a "we don't want to take away anybody's cars but ..." and every argument was buried in so much "data" that nobody who wasn't already a diehard urbanist would sit through it.

It pisses some people off but I literally do not care. It's ridiculous how much better Amsterdam has become in the past 7 years compared to cities that try to pacify drivers.

I stopped selling merch (especially clothes) years ago though because the products were really low-quality, and if I bought higher-quality shirts they were crazy expensive once printed and shipped.

I don't really know if there's a good solution to merch that doesn't just result in NJB-branded stuff ending up in landfills.

@nprofile1q... it's not particularly complicated. The temporary loading zones are sometimes bigger near grocery stores, but the city is also preventing the largest trucks from entering the autoluwe areas.

@nprofile1q... I didn't see any noticeable change before or after covid.

There were a couple of places where bikes were moved to the road to make the sidewalks larger for social distancing (which were removed afterwards), but otherwise, plans pretty much proceeded as usual.

I think the cities that did extra urbanism during covid were the ones that could never get anything done, politically, and used covid opportunistically. That wasn't necessary in Amsterdam.
