I have a new colleague. He’s about 15 years older than me, but until now, he’s only worked as a PE teacher with adults. He was thrown straight into the deep end and given a fifth-grade class.
Since that’s pretty intense without much preparation, they offered to have me support him for the first few days. He was really grateful, and together we managed to get through the first day pretty well.
And it made me realize how nice it is not to be a beginner anymore. To do so many things automatically that you don’t even think about at first, but that can become a problem if you don’t do them.
Being a teacher is damn hard during those first few months and years. I still remember it very well 🤍
