So Google really wants to kill the web and search?
Sjoerd Stendahl profile picture
@nprofile1q... Just want to plug @nprofile1q...

Not affiliated, but it reminds a bit of Google in 2015. Clean results, no ads, no AI unless you ask for it, you can downrank, uprank or block domains for your future results. And one of my favorites, their index is based on what gives good results, not on what makes them most money.

Downside is that it’s paid (which is why they don’t need to rank for ads). But for me it’s more than worth it.

I’m happy to announce Graphs 2.0 is finally out, after two years without any major feature-updates we have finally released our biggest release yet.

With real equations that span an infinite range and can be manipulated analytically, error bars, a new style editor and much more. We even rewrote a large part of the codebase, which is now majority Vala, and should be more performant overall.

See a more complete list of changes here: https://blogs.gnome.org/sstendahl/

@nprofile1q... Thanks, got the paperback/ebook/audiobook combo from the Kickstarter (already had the three for enshittification), the local stores in Sweden seem to ship the same Verso Books edition anyway.

Can't wait to get my hands on it, Enshittification was an important book for me, it's one of those few works that really help put the finger on the issue's we're seeing today. The right diagnosis and vocabulary is important to fight back.

Threw in the EFF support while I was at it

@nprofile1q... Thanks for sharing! Have been waiting for this one.

@nprofile1q... is the physical book hardcover or paperback? Been wondering whether I want to order the physical book locally maybe. Also in case I’d get the physical book locally. Wouldn’t it be more beneficial for both of us to just get ebook+audiobook from your website? Skipping Kickstarter fees?

"He doesn't need tanks to steal Greenland. He can just shut off Denmark's access to American platforms like Office365, iOS and Android and brick the whole damned country. It would be another Strait of Hormuz, but instead of oil and fertilizer, he'd control the flow of Lego, Ozempic and deliciously strong black licorice"

Damn right, digital sovereignty is Europe's Achilles' heel. It is time we wake up and take this seriously, we cannot remain a vassal state of an unreliable partner like the US.

I’m fine with other changes, like using Bazaar by default and the way updates are handled. Should I just go back to Silverblue, or is there a stock GNOME Universal Blue image that would make sense...
Sjoerd Stendahl profile picture
@nprofile1q... that’d be the silverblue (or silverblue-nvidia if you have nvidia drivers) image. It’s the only one that I would recommend honestly. Most changes apart from codecs are CLI things like distrobox and ujust.

It’s what I use at work, or at least my own image based on that with a few default apps as well as some layers such as docker, hashcat and veracrypt.

Who would have thought that the winner of the FIFA Peace Prize would publicly announce a genocide. Sure the committee of this prestigious prize are starting to feel real silly now.

In all seriousness, this man is completely deranged and forms a threat to us all. While he's a symptom of a bigger problem, we can't have this toddler playing with matches at a petrol station.

We need to cut our dependency on the US now. It will be a long time before I'll trust them again, even if he gets 25'd.

@nprofile1q... The default GNOME Text Editor has changed a while ago. Not sure if you're still on the old one (or what Ubuntu uses as default), but in the modern text editor you can turn off syntax highlighting by pressing the info icon in the corner, and then choosing "Plain Text" in Document Type.

Doesn't do word count selection blocks though. And I don't know if it even supports auto-scroll. But otherwise I think it fits all listed criteria I think.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... Do you mean between the small bar and the thicker one? The small bar represents their share of votes in the 2023 elections. The fact that there's such a gap between this small bar and the thicker bar, means that they gained a lot of seats (in the polls) compared to last election.

So e.g. for JA21, last election they had 2% of the vote (the thinner bar), and they're estimated to get between 6 and 8% of the vote (thicker bar) if elections were held today, based on polling.

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... I remember visiting a talk from Femke Halsema at my old uni, where she pointed out that the left always gets the blame for everything despite not having a left-wing government on half a century.

Either way it’s no coincidence that Halsema gets much more vile comments than Cohen or van der Laan did. The political landscape is especially brutal for female leaders, seems hard to deny that empirical fact unfortunately.

With #GUADEC2025 going on, I finally felt motivated about doing a little write-up that I had been planning for a while. In the best case scenario, it can help prospective new developers to get that little push to start sharing their stuff with the world. It's not as scary as it looks :)

Also contains some sneak peaks into the next stable version of Graphs if anyone is interested in that ;-)
