Hannah Aubry is leaving Mastodon after her time with us as community director and board member. We’re very grateful for her contributions, ideas, and commitment to Mastodon and the fediverse. Thank you, Hannah! We wish you all the very best for what comes next.

After publishing the results of Discovery Week, we can now give you a first sneak peak at Mastodon 5.0, our next big version. It will bring a new visual look to your screens, a refreshed and calmer layout, as well as a new composer.

We're excited to share the results from Mastodon's first #DiscoveryWeek!

In case you missed it, earlier this year our Head of Design @nprofile1q... arranged a week of workshops and surveys to get to know you, learn about your needs and wants, and discover how you're using (and want to use) Mastodon.

This week was tremendously helpful for us, and we're grateful to everyone who participated.

Here's what we learned:

Have you taken the @nprofile1q... Social Web Operations Survey yet? 🧐 There's only one day left!

It's time for our first Server Spotlight!

We want to help people find their communities across the #fediverse so we're featuring servers here on this account.

First up: The Mended Drum, a home for fans of all things Sir Terry Pratchett.

It is said that if you stay on The Mended Drum long enough, you'll meet every hero on the server: https://mendeddrum.org/directory

(keep an eye on your horse, though 😉)

Congratulations @nprofile1q... and @nprofile1q..., and thank you @nprofile1q... and @nprofile1q... for all the ways you support the #Fediverse and #SocialWeb 💝

New in Mastodon 4.6: Newsletters 📬

Mastodon servers now support email newsletters, which allow people without a social web account to subscribe to your posts via email. This feature is opt-in at the server level.

We're building Mastodon for people and institutions that want independence from corporate-controlled social networks, so they can reach their audience directly wherever those people are.

Explore Mastodon 4.6's other new features: https://blog.joinmastodon.org/2026/06/mastodon-4.6/

The landing page of your Mastodon server doesn't need to look like a social media feed.

As of our latest release, those running Mastodon servers can now set up a custom landing page that highlights what your server is about and showcases recent posts from local profiles. Give visitors a curated introduction to your server that actually makes sense for your community or mission.

Collections let you curate, share, and discover groups of profiles, to help you find the people and content that interests you.

Here's how they're different:
✅ You decide whether your profile can appear in Collections and you can remove yourself from a Collection at any time
✅ Limited to 25 profiles each, no mass-follow shortcuts, and transparency when Collection details change to keep them useful and spam-free
