The defense mechanism I came up with is asking them directly - what do they mean by their words. When someone is gaslighting me or rude to me, making them repeat their words often times gives them time to think and possibly change their statement. Maybe they think I’m too thick in the head because of my confusion. But it’s okay. I don’t need that kinda people in my life anyway
