Semi-human mutant.

18+ only. Kids, I don't like you.

Not here to debate. My heart skips so if I debate you, you're gonna have to be the one to call the undertaker.

I'd like to keep a journal but it never works out.

Did 11 kilometres in less than an hour, and with the outside temperature being 27 centigrade.

The last kilometre out (and thus the first kilometre back) was a cooker. One drop of 20 metres in about 600 metres horizontal distance, then a 40 metre drop in about 400 metres horizontal distance. Felt a little bit of brake fade on the 40 metre drop. Having melted rim brakes before (and painted the rim with rubber every time), as long as the brakes don't outright melt I'm happy!

@nprofile1q... If simple access to information were enough, and it were solely any particular person's fault that they did not make use of a particular piece of information they may have access to, there would be no librarians or cataloguing systems to help people navigate what is in a particular library; it would be the patron's sole responsibility to find what they needed.

@nprofile1q... Everybody's gotta start somewhere.

I think in so many things, some of the more experienced take on a line of thinking that equates to believing that everybody comes out of the womb knowing one thing or another, and that they're just being lazy or willfully stupid if they don't use this knowledge, which is obviously false.

@nprofile1q... I don't think the alcohol in the shellac itself would cause a problem. If it did, nobody could have ever shellaced oily wood, and it's definitely been done before.

It's just that some (again, maybe most) people think that by scrubbing it with solvent, they're getting rid of the oil. Nope! They're just wasting time.

@nprofile1q...

Polyurethane would be the gold standard of sealing, but you said you wanted natural, and polyurethane is too grippy for a desk anyway.

I'd use shellac. Sand it with something like 220 grit beforehand, get the dust off, put the shellac on.

Some, maybe most, would recommend scrubbing with acetone, naptha, alcohol, etc before applying the shellac. Don't do this. The evaporation will just pull more oil to the surface.

It might take longer to dry because of the oily wood.

Pubs, again? Might be time for some investigative journalists to break down what causes this obsession. It can't be just sheep mentality and nostalgia, can it? #UK #pubs

@nprofile1q... I thought I'd seen the height of sickening nostalgia.

Then I saw the nostalgia that middle aged and above British men have for "duh pub."

That put my former "nostalgia 10" at about a 5. I had to completely recalibrate the scale.

It's pathetic to have that much nostalgia beyond the age of 30.
