As usual, it's not the technology that I'm irked at, but the humans. I just want the people making these decisions, especially ones that are just 'build build build' to listen to people who have practical experience and information, not these fanfic storytellers or the hyperscalar hype men selling either tokens or doom.

The leap from preserving your sovereignty to 'we must also build out a bunch of gigawatt DCs b/c we think that's what AI is' is frustrating.

Sovereign models are possible, sovereign models -exist- (mistral is all but dismissed in the paper for no reason whatsoever), but if people are going to just constantly say 'but it's not GPT5' then they've already lost and - I like your word - just go ahead and become a vassel and give up.

" ... SpaceX is now an AI company. Nearly 80 percent of its predicted $28 trillion total available market is tied to a hypothetical market for AI enterprise services... Even without xAI tacked on, the company would be unprofitable...
Unfortunately for market transparency advocates, the truth is out―and nobody cares... "

If you add up all the staggering predicted gains and profits all these companie claim they will have (Nvidia, OpenAI, SpaceX/ai, etc) that money does not exist in any market. Exactly why the circular financing is happening.

We could have advanced coding tools without ruining the world.
We could have advanced gene folding systems without propping the economy on a circular financing bubble.
We could have advanced personal agents.
But the 'inevitable' hyperscalar fantasy playing out now, telling you youjust have to step aside and let it happen, ruining the world, the environment, consumer-level technology availability, and, quite frankly, some peoples' minds and livelihoods is not necessary. Not  "inevitable".

It's a choice. We're just being told that it is in order that we might have those other things which do have value, in return for giving billionaires and would-be world-runners free reign to pillage our society and our economy and our natural resources. It's a choice we're being asked to stay out of.

"AI" as presented to the world right now has always been a lie, from the name to the promises of sentience and creating a better world, not a worse one, the hyperscalar industry is a lie.
