@Chuck

Engineer equivalent of a Rōnin. I am no longer bound to any one master and free to use my skills to help the poor and slay the rich.

Father, Roboticist, Radio Amateur, Pun enthusiast, and an odd sense of humor. AI Slop avatar on purpose to poison scrapers who use name/face pairs to train facial recognition databases. I look "kind" of like that.

@nprofile1q... Having helped dispose of both my parent's stuff and my wife's parents stuff it is interesting to see how people let go (or don't). There is a company 'maxsold.com' which is doing an interesting thing where everything starts at $0 and never has a reserve. It's interesting to see how the people selling react to that. (not always well)

@nprofile1q... Yup. And the idea that management still doesn't "get" that AI doesn't 'think' and it doesn't 'know' so its always creating a solution from zero. The amount of self harm corporations are doing to themselves is immense, and I expect this too to be part of the cost of the failure over the next 5 to 10 years.

@nprofile1q... Yeah. Some hotel chain I stayed at once and then got bought by a bigger chain and another bigger chain, I signed up for their "points" program on that first stay to get free Internet, and then never spent the 137 points, which became like 60 points in the buyout and then a month of "You're going to lose all your points if you don't stay with us." and then 3 years of occasional. "you would have lost your points but we kept them, check in to claim them!" emails.

I find it amusing that my credit card gives me "reward points" that I can shop for things with out of their catalog, or I can just turn them into cash at a rate of 1000pts = $1. And when I look at things like "Nikon Camera, 183,000 pts" alternatively that's $1,830.00 in cash which would buy the camera and a bunch of accessories and a nice book on Photography. Seems odd that anyone would buy items with points then.

@nprofile1q... old park ranger joke:
Ranger: "Always carry pepper spray and wear bells to scare away bears."
Hiker: "How do we know there is a bear around?"
Ranger:"You'll see bear poop."
Hiker:"Can we identify it?"
Ranger:"Sure black bear poop will have berries in it. Grizzly poop will have bells in it and smell like pepper."

@nprofile1q... Sadly not really, its just the broken way networking on Linux now works with systemd/network manager because it tries to bring up all the networks. If it had been worked on by people who understood networks, they would have understood that there is zero reason ever for a host to connect two network interfaces to the same exact subnet but I digress.

@nprofile1q... I got stumped by an issue once where Linux had decided to bring up the WLAN on a box in addition to the connected ethernet and for what ever reason I was getting asymmetric routing returns where a packet would go out the wireless and the response would try to come back in via the wired network connection. Added 'check the path the packets take' to my list of things to look for.
