I'm so fucking tired of the constant self-promotion, the omnipresent hustle culture, the fundraising, the "everything must be monetized" mentality.

Everything doesn't have to be spin to win. Life shouldn't be about getting rich, and I would love nothing more than for the people who say it should to be tightly packed into a rocket and fired right into the Sun.

Professor Lawler et. al. ( @nprofile1q... ) have published important papers about the disastrous impact satellite swarms like Starlink will have on the night sky. They include lots of good graphs, buuut... a graph is one thing, a visualization is another.

I still find it alarming just how quickly Ai-generated "content" has rendered mainstream platforms unusable. YouTube is all slop. Image search is all slop. Legacy social media is all slop. It's like a nuclear carpet bombing has wiped out the internet, and only the humble cockroach that is the fediverse appears resistant.

And yeah, there's slop here, too, and if I see you boost genAi nonsense that's my cue to unfollow, but for the most part this place is alright.

Alright, here's a world building pitch: A #fantasy civilization where every thousand years (give or take a few centuries) there's a Great Filter type event, some calamity that destroys everything and resets the few survivors to Stone Age levels of science and magic.

Basically, for thousands and thousands of years, every civilization has been built on the ruins of the previous one, unable to advance beyond a certain threshold. A world of wonders, doomed to repeat a deadly cycle.

I am actually angry.

My mom bought my daughter a book to read at bedtime, and as I'm reading it I realize the entire god damn thing is A.I. slop, front to back. The illustrations are OBVIOUSLY Midjourney, and the text is most likely ChatGPT.

I love children's books. Reading to my kids at bedtime is one of my favorite things. So I am exactly the kind of person who would get pissed off here.

My mom's always had awful taste in literature, but this is a new low.
