The Sprawl trilogy predicted our deranged crop of tech billionaires.

The Bridge trilogy predicted our hellish media landscape.

The Blue Ant trilogy predicted the nihilism of modern consumerism.

He doesn't miss. The things Gibson writes, they have a tendency to come true. Which brings me to his latest, the Jackpot trilogy.

The Jackpot is a multi-apocalypse: economic ruin, world war, climate catastrophe, pandemic, Ai disaster...

@nprofile1q... As a European/US dual citizen, I've come to realize a few things about the US.

Most importantly, this place is a casino that's pretending to be a nation. Some people get incredibly lucky and win big, and almost all of them are convinced that they both deserve their winnings and that luck played no part in their success. Most do not get lucky. Many lose their shirt. They all go back for one more roll though. Double or nothing.

And as with any good casino, the house always wins.

@nprofile1q... There may come a day when you'll have to choose between working a job you love and living in a place where you feel alive. Maybe that day is already here, but ultimately only you will know when it's time. When that day arrives, my only piece of advice is, think of "Ten years in the future Gina" and consider what she'd want Today Gina to do.

@nprofile1q... Oh, so sort of like in the Soul Reaver games when the world geometry morphs and twists when you switch between the physical and the spirit world?

You could do a morph like that with a vertex shader, I think. The challenge with that approach is that you need a lot of extra vertices to make the effect look good, so that cube would need a lot more than the standard 8 corner vertices.
