Back in 2004, I dropped out of college to pursue a career in video games. I got incredibly lucky. I worked alongside some truly great people, and also some real shitheels. The wonderful humans FAR outnumbered the terrible ones.

I had a really good run, which came to an end last year with a layoff. That sucked, but I was able to find a new job with a company I like and people who inspire me.

Looking at the unending series of gaming layoffs, I don't even know where to begin.

@nprofile1q... My wife used to be homeless, with all the awful stuff that entails. The streets in this country fucking eat people. And every time somebody does something about it, dipshits crawl out of the woodwork to undo whatever progress has been made.

Like, shit. Imagine this country if like half the fucking people here didn't have this ugly hard-on for using the power of the state to crush people instead of caring for them.

The Blue Ant trilogy predicted the nihilism of modern consumerism.

He doesn't miss. The things Gibson writes, they have a tendency to come true. Which brings me to his latest, the Jackpot trilogy.

The Jackpot is a multi-apocalypse: economic ruin, world war, climate catastrophe, pandemic, Ai disaster...

...all at once.

@nprofile1q... As a European/US dual citizen, I've come to realize a few things about the US.

Most importantly, this place is a casino that's pretending to be a nation. Some people get incredibly lucky and win big, and almost all of them are convinced that they both deserve their winnings and that luck played no part in their success. Most do not get lucky. Many lose their shirt. They all go back for one more roll though. Double or nothing.

And as with any good casino, the house always wins.

Maybe that day is already here, but ultimately only you will know when it's time. When that day arrives, my only piece of advice is, think of "Ten years in the future Gina" and consider what she'd want Today Gina to do.
