I wouldn't be brave enough to push that wood analogy that far, but you make a fair point. It was just a tidbit of memory I first remember being whelmed (sic) by the fractality of our world (mandatory mention https://xkcd.com/1095/ ).

thanks, fren. intimacy is such a tricky subject because its meaning varies so much. but it's also something we (i'm guilty of this too) tend to internalize the experience of instead of the connection. just an observation. i don't doubt how you feel because i have and still do feel similarly at tim...

Yeah, intimacy is maybe too broad a term for that. Being seen and being able to relax/unwind/be yourself is part of that too. Or maybe "just" part of love. But since I have apparently min-maxed my emotional build around physical, I can only side-class to intellectual, not switch entirely. And I am the first to admit that all these feelings are exaggerated by their current subpar coverage.

Subconsciously rummaging about my understanding of intimacy. Remembered an old memory I could use as a simile. In the Scout's book, there was a chapter about firewood. Which tree gives the best for warmth, which gives the brightest light for a meeting campfire, and which burns longest for night watch.

Yet for many people, firewood is just that - firewood.

Intimacy for me is
- physical contact (from a touch, a passing kiss, to cuddling),
- sex (not necessarily penetrative or even orgasmic, basically anything from heavy petting upwards),
- and kink fulfillment.

That's three facets of something that most people put in one bin...
Wondering if there is someone that sees more.
Wondering if there is something I brush off as one while it's fractally complicated.
