@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... Posting press releases pre-embargo causes a lot of trouble for working journalists. There are no NDAs for embargoes releases, but people in the trade don't break embargoes as they help everyone in the loop.
1. They give journalists background and time to write a story by the embargo date. In medicine, that embargo date is often the same date as when a study in a journal is published. This is why news stories about things like BMJ or NEJM studies all come out on the same day as the study itself is published.
2. It helps the researchers behind that new study know what sort of time-window they need to keep open for media interviews.
If someone breaks an embargo, they get blacklisted by the organization sending out releases -- and often by other organizations that hear about it.
When an embargo is broken, all those other journalists have to scramble to get their stories in earlier. Some publications kill the story because they will no longer be one of the first to publish it -- which means less awareness of the study.

What qualifies as 'media' has expanded and includes many blogs. Yours must be popular enough to get advance releases.
