My search for #notetaking apps and syncing solutions has me exploring #Nextcloud and Nextcloud Notes.

Lately I've been doing a lot in the Nextcloud web interface and the Android apps. Notes can be accessed in both the regular Nextcloud app as well as the dedicated Notes app.

Nextcloud has a Tasks app in the web interface, but that isn't part of the Android app.

But you can create checkbox-style to-do lists in regular notes.

And the Tasks part of Nextcloud is supposed to sync with other to-do apps. I haven't looked into this yet.

Overall, I have maybe 30 Flatpak apps that I'm looking at. It's a surprisingly crowded space.

@passthejoe I've used GhostBSD before, and the graphical package manager and especially the graphical networking manager go a long way toward making the system more usable.

I really don't have a problem with CLI package management and updates, and I can do wifi from the terminal, but having a network-manager type utility is just really convenient.

@passthejoe All of that said, GhostBSD with MATE was extremely responsive on this machine. It did WiFi extremely well.

But I didn't get the sense that anybody has really solved the sound problem for FreeBSD on this hardware, and that gave me pause.

Suspend was more wonky than I'd like it to be, but it worked.

I booted into the live environment of #GhostBSD on my 2011 iMac 27-inch.

I always forget that this Mac requires the original keyboard (I'm sure it's somewhere) or a wired USB keyboard to boot from USB. It took me a while to find one.

It booted fine and looks great.

Sound was a problem. Only the treble speakers were working. The bass speakers were silent. I saw a couple #FreeBSD and GhostBSD posts on potential fixes, but nothing definite.

I might return to FreeBSD on this system and try to figure out the sound issue, but I'm more likely to give some other Linuxes a try first.
It has run Debian 10/11/12/13 over the years. That has been very reliable. Recently some Flatpak apps (generally Electron-based) have had some graphics issues, but going from Wayland to X11 has fixed that.

@Cassidy James :rr: :gg: :fh: I'm on Bluefin but still working out of Distrobox containers. I really want the dev environments to be disposable.

In my mind, Brew is good for the system utilities that you would have layered in the past.

But you can add any runtimes or utilities that you need both ways.

It's nice to have the choice. Bluefin also has Toolbx in addition to Distrobox.

@passthejoe @Paul Wilde :dontpanic2: :smeghead: :archlinux: :freebsd: I'm now using authors = in the post front matter. I coded my page.html template to display multiple authors, even though it's only just me.

I'm going to pull the authors taxonomy in the near future. Don't need it. But it's night to see how it works.

Starting with an existing theme and then modifying it is something I enjoy.

I did learn quite a few things, which is at least half the point.

I'm working on the author setup on my #Zola blog. It's not like I have more authors than me, but I did code my page.html template to allow for multiple authors to appear in both posts and in the atom feed.

I first set up authors as a taxonomy, but If need to mess with the atom.xml template to make that work, so I went back to authors = [""] and tested that. It works. I still only have one author, but I wanted to see it work ... https://zola.passthejoe.net/
