I’ve been thinking a lot about what’s happening in the strait after learning Iran is demanding bitcoin as payment to let ships pass. Even if the story is half true, (which is entirely possible, hard to tell in moments like this) the implications are being severely under appreciated.

We will soon be , or perhaps already are, living in a world where an individual opinion of bitcoin no longer matters.

In case the analogy isn’t clear; You (yes, you) are the oil tanker. Iran is the business selling a product or service you need to buy.

You think bitcoin is a Ponzi scheme? You think it uses too much energy? You think it won’t survive quantum computing?Those opinions are now irrelevant if you need to get a tanker through the strait. You need to pay in bitcoin , otherwise you can find another way to get your oil through.

This situation in the strait is a microcosm of what the world would look like under a Bitcoin standard. It doesn’t matter what you think. If someone has something you want, and they want Bitcoin as payment, then you may not have a say in the matter.

In the words of Satoshi, it might make sense just to get some in case it catches on. That “just in case” window is closing quickly. Gradually, then suddenly.
