More than once, I’ve seen folks narrowing the concept of “enterprise” organizations to include only largest fraction of a percent of businesses lately. Admittedly, large organizations (above 500 employees) tend to have unique scaling challenges due to their size, but are we actually refocusing to a point where midsize enterprises (250-499 employees) aren’t even in the enterprise category anymore? The “E” in #SME still stands for #Enterprise.

This is what happens when we start thinking that this generation’s iteration of Eliza has more answers than we do. Want to use AI algorithms as a tool for the chimp work? Go for it. Want to find the meaning of life through it? No. Just no.

Root problem? We’re becoming lazy and desperately want someone/something to do our thinking for us. Given our history of believing things on little more than the assertiveness of others, maybe the bulk of us always did. I recommend Robert J. Sawyer’s “Quantum Night” for a spooky but plausible take on this.
