@nprofile1q... I mean repeater mode that functions like a meshtastic node in client mode, participating in a mesh. The meshcore repeater frequencies are different from the normal meshcore mode, so you get the repeater network mode or the mesh mode.
A major storm system rolled through my area the this week and I got to see the mesh core network go from 20 hops to less than 6 and nothing was getting confirmed out beyond my local neighborhood anyway, so I might as well switch back over to the actual meshtastic network that was up and operating as expected with our more limited local reach to help with reporting which areas lost power or had blocked streets.
Meshcore could work for these situations if it incorporated both, but the storm took out too much infrastructure. Even one of the repeaters that stayed up went down the following day because the solar panel got moved by the wind , so even solar infrastructure isn't immune.

Well, my stance on #MeshCore has changed, though i still have issues with both protocols. I feel that #meshtastic is going to be much more resliant in the event of an emergency for my local neighborhood and other close groups.
If i want to socialize and talk to folks in the next major city over, MeshCore has the range and hashtag channels that enable that. Not so helpful when were trying to organize food distribution and water drops within walking distance. The need to mannualy change the configuration to local mesh networks and it takes it to a different band than the normal meshcore frequencies meaning it doesnt get all those benefits to do local meshing just feels like i'll be better off trying to have a cheap Heltec that can dual boot either firmware...

On its own, this is probably not all that exciting of a concept. Combined with the ability to display ratings and reviews from NeoDB, Inventaire, or Bookwyrm, it could be interesting?

@Sean Tilley yeah my first thought reading your last post was neodb. The trick is they're all so under staffed and funded, they all mostly tie into Overdrives monopoly and I would bet they wouldn't let someone
I feel like including n their library of things and encouraging a local fedi ecosystem in the community would be necessary for it to be used.

Maybe if a more singular service running a neodb or something bridged the different library networks for reviews and recommendations somehow based on inventory and user reviews? That might be enough critical mass to get used by more folks
