Sigh. We are 1 out of 3 or 4 in attempts at playing classical guitar accompaniment on taisho koto bass.

One piece can be played the way it was written, with some adaptation. The others all have these huge octave-sized jumps in consecutive notes.

I can do that going down scale, but not up. That creates open note problems when you take your finger off the key to reach upscale.

Who knew. A non-traditional approach and self-directed learning incrementally rarer and rarer instruments would lead me back to classical music and performing with a professional traditional musician.

Sigh. I enjoy it actually. But I know I am shitting down the necks of the purists.

Plugged in, doing it with no technique but bs and boldness. Lol

I was trying to decipher a tuning intention on the odd strings when I saw this and stopped tuning to look for a repair technician.

What are these parts called? One is missing a brass "fret bar" type piece.

This one is all guesses by the person who gave it to me because someone gave it to him also. It has been in very talented hands? But they did not care for it well it looks like. The person who gave it to me said he thought it was built from a kit.

But why the non-standard set of strings then? I suspect a true dulcimer lover built it to suit a creative need.

Dusty beast is here!!

Needs servicing by a proper technician. Lucky to live in a town with a local shop that can help.

I ordered proper mallets, these pictured are for practice.

Very different than others I have seen. There is a chord section and a bass section I think? I don't understand the bottom 9 strings, tbh.

Instead of pairs, it has quads of strings?
