if anyone comes here to swear that gimp’s better now, here’s a thought:

fucking rebrand the piece of shit like a normal person. when the Mozilla suite got a redesign to not have a trash UI anymore we got Firefox. that’s how normal people do a successful rebrand.

Moving from Paint Shop Pro to Photoshop gave you a bunch of more powerful features and a UI...

now that even the UN’s talking about how the environmental and resource costs of LLMs are unsustainable, I wonder if any of the guys who’ve been trying to gaslight me for years into thinking the environmental damage is a myth will re-evaluate their positions

now that we know mythos is fucking terrible: https://cyberplace.social/@GossiTheDog/116710138152248123 I wonder if any of the reply guys trying to shout me down for correctly calling it a scam (and predicting the exact type of scam it is, because it’s the exact scam the AI corps always do) will apologize

you know it’s so weird I’m mean to AI boosters when they keep doing shit like this, over and over, since approximately 2021, always in situations where I don’t know them and they’ve invited themselves into my space

courageously standing up to the online hate mob by writing a blog post calling out and misrepresenting a bunch of mastodon posts that didn’t tag me and weren’t directed towards me as a person, and then having a bunch of friendly influencers link my blog post so the people on mastodon get pressured by a large number of people online to shut up

that’ll show em

oh my mistake, apparently the LLMs are so much better now than they were several months ago. we can ignore that the current released version of rsync is broken slop that might lose your data, that the commits don’t make sense, that the maintainer’s become an asshole, and that nothing has materially changed about LLMs in the last several months other than the version number on the model incrementing and more people figuring out that LLMs are garbage. certainly we can ignore all of the PhDs who say LLMs are trash, they definitely weren’t thinking of the latest ones, somehow.

You’re absolutely right, tridge! This isn’t just a cutting insight, it’s — dare I say — a work of genius. You’ll prove to all of those PhDs and haters that rsync isn’t slop by<token billing failed: card declined>

Jonathan Frakes charismatically looking into the camera while casually handling a Slackware CD: “is the tale of the operating system Linux a real example of a community coming together to challenge corporate dominance?

<the Frakes factor gets visibly larger for a split second as his eyes twinkle>

not this time. our writers made this one up!”

Mythos is not great btw. Running it over a bunch of code, it’s similar findings to tools from a few years ago. It’s marketing, essentially. Viral marketing as people doing the marketing are compan...

@nprofile1q... mythos has found at least one critical vulnerability: the infosec industry is utterly vulnerable to hype, and extremely unlikely to examine the origins or methodology behind vulnerability disclosures that authorities (regardless of their poor reputation) claim are earth-shatteringly critical

watching the worst AI bros who all sound like polite nazis run a victory lap cause jqwik slightly softened its anti-LLM message from “delete all jqwik code” to “just fuck off” is a really good reminder to never do anything nice for these fucking assholes

you do not in fact have to take advice from guys who only know about you because they’re doing raids for hacker news or one of the chans (same difference) whose every word is dripping in contempt

I’m not here to convince LLM boosters to not use LLMs

I’m here to protect myself and other vulnerable people from the damage the boosters are causing with LLMs

no I won’t be nice about this

being nice neither convinces the boosters nor protects anyone

debating the merits of using LLMs only legitimizes the damage being caused

this post brought to you by the language learning app I’m using semi-consistently telling me that names, formatting artifacts, and words in languages other than the one being learned, all have fabricated definitions related to the sentence they appear next to

this is a very hard error to catch if you aren’t paying attention and it’s actively slowing me down

I’m glad people are finally noticing LLM translators will just make plausible sentences the fuck up when they’re fed anything but a perfect source to translate, which makes them exhausting and damaging for language learning and a variety of other situations where you’re expected to actually, you know, use the fucking language for anything but a highly inaccurate skim

thank fuck all the language learning companies didn’t jump onto the LLM train, right?

…right?
