Request for advice: I sell art and toys at art and toy shows. Mostly I do small shows with atendees who are part of the scene. Lots of sidewalk sales, an occasional bigger vintage toy show. (But "...

@nprofile1q... ok, this may not fit your crowd… but:

Many many years ago I made subversive and silly costume jewellery, sometimes I would sell at music festivals and such. But small things on tables aren’t eye catching at a distance for when folks think about maybe coming back to your booth or telling a friend to go check you out.

So in addition to my actual for sale stuff, I had a defrocked umbrella skeleton attached to an eight foot telescoping pole (lashed to my table leg for stability/security). I used it to hang extra inventory like a colourful silly mobile.

People were constantly commenting on how eye catching it was and how their friends told them to find me by describing it.

I think the thing I hate most about trying to call a business is the recorded voice always says in the most condescending way possible, “Did you know you can find answers on our website?” like I...

@nprofile1q... the way my rage levels peak when it’s the automated phone system at the pharmacy chirping at me to just “order my refill online” or even better “set up auto refill”. And I’m just like…

Motherfuckers.

If y’all would actually let me do that with my adhd meds we wouldn’t be running into the seething emotional disregulation that comes on the heels of my executive dysfunction not letting me manage to speak with the pharmacist to manually request a fucking refill before I ran out a few days ago. *twitch*

Not that I have strong feelings on the topic or anything. :trash_daa: :yell:

@nprofile1q... I’m also going to quietly but enthusiastically tap the “ask your local library” sign.

A lot of them offer free access to newspapers.com and other digital periodical archive resources using your library card. The library might not be spending a lot of effort advertising them since the demand is fairly low, so it might not be obvious where to look for the access.

Most librarians would be thrilled to show someone how to find that info for free!

As an example, this is what my local county has available for patrons at the magical price of free: https://hcplc.org/research/news
