no sure why everyone is getting upset. Live is great and on-demand is great. I love listening to Adam and Dave live on Friday and giving them live feedback. But if I miss it I listen to the podcast....

I’m not upset Sam. What I will always disagree with is those with Live shows that have timezones on their side and audiences appropriately placed always say Live is wonderful and everyone should do it, and that’s not true. By all means try it, but for me and a lot of other podcasters I’ve spoken with over the years, it’s it rarely worth the effort. THat’s all I’m saying. For True Fans, offer it, absolutely. I’ll never use a live feature and most won’t.

We should also remember that most podcasts have fewer than a hundred downloads anyway - so doing them “live” and hoping listeners will show up is a recipe for podfade and sadness. Live is great - I did live radio for many years - but I don’t think it’s the same product as a podcast.

Hi Mitch, Time shifting means, podcasts allow you to listen when you want, not when the live stream wants you to. Podcasts allow you to organise your life around when you want to listen, live forces you to listen when the creator wants you to. That’s what I mean.

agree 100% - I was just saying there is space for both just as there is space for audio and video on demand podcasts

@Sam Sethi :pc2red: ⁂ RE: This weeks PNWR, Live only works if you’re streaming when the majority of your audience can listen live. People wanted to time shift listening with podcasts so live becomes the opposite of what podcasts provide. Hence there is no real demand for it.

When I had my radio station, we broadcast over 40 live shows a week. Each show was then turned into a podcast. We broadcast the shows live on web/mobile/web/dab People could choose to listen live to the radio show or catchup on-demand. I think the cost cutting leading to the close of radio sta...

Agree with this - if you live in Australia, then a) you get no live shows, and b) if you broadcast live it’s in the middle of the night. Also, podcasts benefit from a good edit.

Some people have labelled me as anti-AI (LLM-version). I’m not really, in an absolutist sense. I think that the value of LLM “AI” is overblown to the point of insanity and the resources and spend to build out can not be rationally justified. They are useful tools for maybe, something less than 1% of what Silicon Valley claim they are. Hype machines are tedious to listen to, and I’m tired of listening to it. That’s pretty much it. Open your eyes. See them for what they are and jog on.

I hope so. I was very invested in streaming Sats for years but it dried up and effectively died. The concept was sound, but the technology wasn’t stable enough. I’d hate to see such a great idea fall away when it addressed so many of the problems.
