I can only agree, unfortunately...
The worse tactic with the typical "we're on the good side here" padding is to suggest that the move is meant to protect childrens: "if you don't agree, you're against these innocent and powerless childrens"

Telegram encryption is indeed optional, and I understand their company structure doesn't make it easy for authority to request information.
But the issue IMHO, is the fact of targetting tools. Knife can kill, yet we use everyday to cook and eat. Telegram is a tool.
