On last week’s trip to LA we stayed in Boyle Heights. It was my first time in the neighborhood and it reminded me so much of the Mission in SF before gentrification. Predominantly Spanish-speaking. Beautiful example of loosely reviving a typeface with such love that it becomes more useful than the original without losing any of its soul.

Last week the Neon Speaks festvial was held in Reno at the soon-to-open Light Circus Neon Museum hosted in the National Bowling Stadium(!). As soon as we saw the size of the building’s theater screen I knew we had to do a matchbook talk so we could blow these beauties up to ridiculous sizes. What fun!
