@Richard Carroll it was definitely something special, it grasped so many of us instantaneously. I think we were beginning to get too comfortable with games telling what to do and where to go. This was so different, so trippy, there were so many things to discover. I still remember the weird shapes, the sounds of the Yume Nikki walking, when you finally get the bike, and of course, of the ending.
I think the closest to a fascination game like that I ever felt again was Undertale (which was NOT made in RPG Maker, but GameMaker, another completely different engine). But remained the style almost as if it would have been made with the former, though some parts like the "action/Touhou" scenes would have been impossible.
Omori didn't catch me fully, and the little I have tried of the demo of Deltarune left me confused. I heard you got to be involved with the community to understand the later so I think I'll sadly pass it, even though I love Toby Fox tunes.
