Jupiter is known to be a failed star today, is made mostly of hydrogen and helium, just like stars. The difference is mass. To become a true star, an object needs enough mass and pressure at its core to trigger sustained hydrogen fusion. Jupiter during it's formation kept on cleaning the solar system and engulfing all the massive rocks. It even engulfed a mars sized planet to make space for Earth. As a result it became a massive one but it could somehow not attain the threshold mass required to become a star. Just like Pluto couldn't to become a planet. So Jupiter never became a star. It is also known as a Failed star today. But that doesn’t make it a failure. It became the largest planet in our Solar System, with an enormous gravitational influence and its gravity can alter the paths of passing asteroids and comets.
