One of the best things on the Internet is NASA's Astronomy Picture of the Day. Running every day since 1995. No bells, no whistles, just a one stunning and/or interesting picture every day with a caption. Nothing ever breaks, the code is feather-weight light.

Bonjour la #TeamVélo - de son propre aveu, ma mère ne sait même pas gonfler un pneu de vélo, et suite à sa séparation de son mari, elle n'a plus personne à proximité pour l'aider à entretenir son engin (J'habite à 1500km).
Je cherche donc pour elle un atelier d'apprentissage des bases, pour qu'elle se sente plus indépendante. Est-ce que quelqu'un connait ca en Normandie (préférence 76) ?

It will never cease to blow my mind that car drivers can admit in public that their driving habits are unsafe for other road users (and often illegal), and immediately suggest that the solution is to inconvenience other road users.
This arrogance is commonly accepted in society, and a cyclist calling it out is considered rude.

A question for the #textile #fabric #sewing community at large: if an item is marked “wash at 30° only”, how do i figure out if that means “this will get absolutely destroyed at 60°” or “this will wear much faster but can definitely survive one wash at 60° so you can prevent your family from getting scabies”?

So many people in so many companies, city councils, NGOs, think tanks, are bending over backwards to transition to renewable energy and stop using fossil fuels.
Meanwhile: "More than 100 UK datacentres plan to burn gas to generate electricity".

We need to make new fossil fuel connection actively illegal.
You can't have a bunch of people doing their utmost to phase out fossil fuels only for all their work and gains to be disappeared by data centers.

The conclusion of this article left me feeling quite annoyed. It suggests ways that men can keep caring about the environment while staying "masculine". A lot of it is about managing feelings by emphasizing the ways that they can stay dominant while having vaguely more sustainable behaviours. Like "marketing EVs as major man machines that can charge drills or become generators if a storm cuts off power". It's exhausting.
