@nprofile1q... there are whole Facebook groups and websites devoted to how to properly do the aesthetics on a Rivendell bicycle. Which is funny because the founder, Grant, is famously against new technology and into things like making bike grips out of felt pads tied to the bars with twine. And the acolytes copy this ad hoc style with unbelievable devotion

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... yeah, that’s actually the Republican theory of valid gun ownership. Whenever you’ve had enough from political leadership, you can go take care of it yourself with your guns. They proudly talk about this all the time. It’s working out about how you’d expect.

got a few comments and i gotta say, it feels **great** not because it's "engagement" or whatever. i'm just remembering how we used to build little communities with blogs where the regulars talked to...

@nprofile1q... I couldn't remember if I signed up, so I just chose to yell at you here. Probably should just do it once and get to chat in the blog comments like the old days.

However, as in the old days, I also remember why we ditched having open blog comments - random problematic interlopers starting fights or shitposting, which lead to comment moderation, which torches your schedule, etc...

Will Stancil has decided to argue that the economic situation in the US is Good, Actually. https://cdn.masto.host/thepitsocial/media_attachments/files/116/605/859/743/934/221/original/930984cc4c3229c...

@nprofile1q... Taking it at face value, let's talk about examples. It is uncontroversial that a lot of other economies provide far better stability for citizens - literally any social democracy seems to. But if he's arguing about potential wealth and gains, I do think the US objectively comes out on top against any other economy. The fault in Stancil's logic is the implication that most citizens prefer a chance at wealth/gains over stability & reducing economic risk. I certainly prefer the latter.

@nprofile1q... another downstream unintentional consequence of Trumpism. In this case, ICE vehicles become more costly and harder to maintain, while EVs with only 7-8 moving parts become much more appealing. And right on the heels of the U.S. automakers boldly going back to ICE and loudly getting rid of any fuel economy features. I predict a lot of “muscle cars” sitting unsold on lots.

@nprofile1q... among other things, I manage crews that are laying cement, and I guarantee they aren’t pulling that. It’s also backbreaking work, so if you don’t make supervisor by the time you’re 35, you will age VERY quickly from the combo of heavy labor out in the sun, and working around lots of fine particulate dust. Would love to see the failsons of the upper 1% spend a few days on a concrete crew.
