I do believe that I am a VERY cheap date. When asked yesterday what I wanted to do on my birthday-- and I was told that I could do anything I wanted-- I responded quickly with "I want to start the day hiking on my favorite local trail, followed by canoeing on a nearby lake. I then want to end the day by having dinner on the beach at the ocean as the sun sets". Birthday wish granted! Had a terrific day yesterday!! And, yes, another trip logged around that big bright thing in the sky!

Just now arrived in the White Mountains, NH. Will be hiking tomorrow. This is a different mountain range (Presidential) from what I’ve spent most of the last 6+ years in. As much as I enjoyed the other ranges (most in Pemigewasset Wilderness), I’m looking to try out new trails. Keeping it simple on the first several trips— plan to day-hike as many different trails as possible, enjoying the new area plus scouting for good (future) primitive camping and snowshoeing. See you on the other side! 😀⛰️

So strange to look at my yard--- all snow gone and plants pushing through the soil--- and to think that there are still harsh winter conditions up there. Yeah, steep ice-- that was a trick ascending in some spots in only microspikes. Should have switched to crampons on the ascent. And, so glad I had them on getting back down. 😀 ❄️

It is still winter at higher elevations in the White Mountains, NH. Here is the view from the summit that I hiked up this time last year. Strong wind, heavy snowfall, and limited visibility. There had been many freeze/thaw cycles before this hike, leaving an icy base with fresh powder on top. I ascended to the summit with only microspikes on, but used crampons for much of the descent. A great adventure! #MountainMonday #hiking #photography

Wow-- it wasn't that long ago that this lake and the ones near it were frozen solid and I was snowshoeing through the surrounding forest on a deep layer of snow. Even snowshoed a bit on one of the lakes. Spring has definitely arrived here-- had a nice hike today in this forest, looping around this lake. A great day to be out! #hiking #nature #photography
