I was watching an old French television film called La Residance last night about a coup who retire to a gated community in the South of France.

While they were putting activities together, I was reminded of the Gamers Nexus video about an anarchist maker space.

I wonder if maker spaces could widen out? Old folks have skills, I have some, although not so much in the knitting.

Community spaces not just for old folks to take up new hobbies, but to teach others of all ages.

I think we tread a dangerous path when in FOSS we ignore users concerns.

If we don't factor in users feelings, why are we sharing our software?

I can't tell if it's a scam bot doing the equivalent of a ping call, or just well some guy doing what some men do on the internet.

A thought that occurred to me on yesterday's walk is that we're regressing to what my great grandparents education was. They were illiterate and ignorant. They trusted the system and the status quo.

My Grandparents on the other hand learned not to. They all fought for the rights of their families and for them to not be illiterate. To use libraries. My father taught me to read before I started school.

We need to learn how to do that again and help the next generation to do so as well.

Looking with a huge side eye at the ableism in the idea that your activism only counts if you're physically taking the part all the time.

I'll be IRL when gatherings have a robust public health policy and consider masking as part of solidarity.

Activism by it's nature is performative. That's the point of it.

Community work is labour, regardless of how public or private it is.

But it does tell me who wants us to be quiet. Who doesn't wonder who disappeared and why.

I have limited sympathy for charities who trusted Microsoft to look after their data. I can only hope the providers that sold in Microsoft to them looked after them.

My sympathy is particularly limited to those who moved from independent email providers and Free software.

But then budget is often more important than long term relationships.

IT providers and hosting have long been under appreciated and in a race to the bottom.

So here we are.
