The level of white-hot incandescent rage I now feel whenever anything AI related pops up on my screen (especially at the OS level) is nearly indescribable.

I can't recall literally ANY new technology that has been so widely hated and yet so universally thrust upon the public. Can you?

I hope this individual, wherever they are nowadays, is having a good Pride month. πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

(They would be 34 or 35 years old at this time. I wonder if they even know they were featured on the cover of Newsweek decades ago.) πŸ‘Ά

As mentioned in my video today on YouTube, I've been helping a new channel try to share some very old music that is quite special to me. It's been problem after problem with YouTube.

Have a look at this...

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pj9RLatOjgvKUhPfdD0wMAWx1eJss_Ha/view?usp=drive_link

...and tell me why you think it's banned?

YouTube is flagging old Irish folk songs as being "support or recruitment" for "violent criminal organizations."

Yes, these songs are political β€” much of the Irish music I like is β€” but you can't join the IRA without a time machine, not to mention the songs that are getting banned aren't "Broad Black Brimmer" or "Men Behind the Wire" but things like the song at the above link... "Grace"

Have a look at the video at that Google drive link and tell me what you think?

Hello, internet. Here's a fun question for you all...

I often keep a super old tech, no features brick phone in my travel bag. It's a good backup and I can toss in a local SIM in many countries, etc.

This was the phone I had for years, dedicated to that purpose...

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07MZDZ8QL

... however, it has sadly developed a crack in the screen and the display isn't really functional anymore. I'm thinking of replacing it, but I'd be interested in whether folk have opinions regarding the usefulness of ANY brick style phone anymore. Almost everything we do is on apps.

I might just start carrying one of my older Android phones (several of which sit in a drawer here) which, despite not being fast, at least still support Signal, Slack, Discord, etc. (not to mention they support device encryption, even if the Android OS is slightly outdated on a couple of them)

What do you all think?

(And if you DO like the brick phone idea still... are there any that are truly world phones that support all the modern bands?)

Voice-over-LTE/VoLTE support is kinda hit-or-miss even on phones that do support 4G/5G, it also often breaks in weird ways because it requires a bunch of inter...

...if you are honest with yourself, then you know we should make time for each other than we actually do.

Coming together is important. We all know we should do it more. Consider logging in today, especially if you've been feeling disconnected from others in the hacker world.

More information about Jason is also here... https://professorsigmund.com/field-notes/in-memoriam-parmaster.html

Thank you so much to Deb for organizing this.
