Happy 18th White Paper Day.
Most of the world spends today celebrating Halloween, a holiday built around fear. Fitting, because Bitcoin does the same thing to the legacy fiat system. It frightens it.
Most people still miss the point. They see Bitcoin as a speculative investment instead of what it really is: the hardest money in the world, a freedom technology that only you can hold and no one can confiscate or freeze, as long as you self-custody it properly.
On October 31, 2008, Satoshi gave the world a nine-page paper. He didn’t invent its building blocks. He combined decades of work by cryptographers and cypherpunks going back to the 1970s: Ralph Merkle, David Chaum, Neal Koblitz, Victor S. Miller, Adam Back, Nick Szabo, Wei Dai and many others. The genius was in the combination.
Zoom out on human history and 18 years is nothing. Yet in that time Bitcoin went from a mailing list post to a global monetary network. Today it comes of age. I can’t imagine where we’ll be in 5, 10, 20 or 30 years.
What I’m confident in is the people building it. Whether you contribute through code, education or any other way, you are moving this forward. The path to sovereignty is neither easy nor cheap. It takes effort, discipline and dedication. It takes proof of work.
The old system uses words, images and sounds to manipulate and distract. Math can’t be manipulated. Bitcoin is math, and there is no tricking it.
Stay disciplined. Focus on your craft. Ignore the noise. We will prevail.
