So I am ready to get on the Lora Wan bandwagon! I have no idea what I'm doing :-)

Some Internet 'research' pointed me to Mesh Core as platform and Heltec as one of the options to get some kit.

So that's what has happened. I just ordered some kit. I'm eager to find out if I can reach anyone in my neighborhood.

Should be fun :-)

On of our kids killed their iPhone. These things happen. And we still have an older model as spare.

But this time round, I'm very reluctant to get a permanent replacement. I'm not ready to leave the Apple ecosystem altogether, but I'm very much not prepared at this time to spend actual money on a replacement.

I don't want to invest in more proprietary technology that is drifting in a direction I would not want to go.

The runbsd.eu mailserver (OpenBSD + Postfix + Dovecot + OpenDKIM) is just about done. When it is done done, the blogpost will be there too.

Does anyone know of an overview of European hardware brands that focus on sustainability and openness? Since this year, I have been using very nice headphones from https://repeat.audio/. My daughter...

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... I don't know of any such list, but the limited experience I have with Tuxedo was great. Same goes for @nprofile1q...

Without such a list, just looking at repair-ability should go a long way when it comes to sustainability.

Both @nprofile1q... and @nprofile1q... seem to deliver hardware that works with Linux mainline out of the box. There still might be caveats.

A minor set back from the Linux on the Desktop front: the motherboard has earned it's place in the 'Fried Hardware Memorial'. A new one should arrive somewhere next week

I may or may not have been disconnecting monitor cables from the videocard while the monitor was powered on. I may or may not have seen sparks.

This also means that the video adapter may or may not turn out fried too :-)

Just now I tried to install the e-sim of my provider (Dutch KPN) on my Graphene OS, but it ends with Oops ....

So I might need to get a plastic SIM card instead :-)

Ok I need some regular apps on my Graphene OS phone. I would like to avoid the Google Play store and/or signing into a Google account.

Are there trustworthy alternatives?

I can get the Signal app from the Signal website, but there are others that are normally only published to the Google Play store I believe?
