🧵 NEW STUDY just dropped and it’s wild: Researchers at the University of Digital Wellbeing followed 2,400 participants over 6 months and found that deleting X (formerly Twitter) from your phone ...

Irrespective of the fake news that is this study, swapping the native X app for the PWA interface has a similar effect on negative emotions, anxiety, etc.

That's been pretty consistent feedback from my admittedly, very small friend group. It's unclear why that is.

I agree with you and suspect Nostr has the effect it has because it's still niche and community-oriented.

Once the degenerate lot makes it's way over en-masse, all bets are off.

Yeah, they run great. But they completely suck if people are used to a windows laptop from this year. Graphics and memory alone already make everything extremely slow in comparison.

Gotcha, I don't do anything that maxes these out so my systems generally cruise on old hardware.

I suppose use cases requiring robust compute wouldn't be served well by repurposing old hardware paired with a Linux distro.

To your original point, better to evaluate a Linux OS on hardware that matches or exceeds the demand of whatever load you put on it regularly.

Linux is more efficient than Windows but it's not magic.

Vitor Pamplona · 22w
Yeah, I think every person that tests on older hardware than what they are used to gets disappointed by the experience. We should simply not encourage that behavior. They need to test with their current machines.

Europe is in full on 1984 mode and hardly anyone seems to care.

Many Europeans may not recognize soft totalitarianism, especially if it’s framed as “safety”, “equity”, or “progress”. The State’s hella good at subtle ideological control. It may be the only thing they’re goods at.

When folks are sufficiently propagandized, everyone misses the forest for trees. The people quibble over trivialities while the State amasses influence and power over every detail of their lives.

I no longer find things like this surprising after living through the pandemic stateside. It was quite unreal to witness the lull most were in…and how apologetic they were toward the government’s conduct.
