Did passengers in horse-drawn stagecoaches also nervously get up 15 minutes before arrival and then awkwardly stand in the middle of the vehicle, holding their luggage while trying not to make eye contact as it slowly crawled in to the destination?

Someone gave me a branded 10000 mAh power bank. Plugged in a computer it also appears to be a 128 mb memory card. No-where on the packaging does it say so.

Is this common? What's the point?

Het komt ook over als een medewerker die een "coole werkreis" maakt, zich persoonlijk belangrijk gevonden ziet, en dan graag op Linkedin een bevestiging met Likes ziet.

Dit soort overheidsorganisaties zouden er goed aan doen om het beleid te handhaven waarbij individuele medewerkers in hun rol als [functie] niet dit soort vergaande subjectieve meningen als feit de ether in mogen gooien.

As far as I have been able to figure out (also became a parent around that time, was distracted) this was very much linked Google experimenting with their "AI summaries".

Whenever Google enabled this in a region the traffic to https://overfishing.org just disappeared.

This had never been an issue with their previous version, the "Quick answers" snippets they had since the 2010s. These would not be rewritten by a machine, and did link back properly to actual carefully worded information.

Some time in 2023 (from the top of my head in Q4) I started noticing how on some days, and from some regions, traffic would basically be non-existent.

An example: on Monday and Tuesday it would see about 750 individual visitors* from the US. Then for two days just 50, and 750 again on Friday.

Eventually that low number became the norm. And eventually I figured out it had nothing to do with being shadowbanned or whatever. It was simply Google.

*unique IP visiting two or more pages

This received some questions. Specifically 'In today's siloed internet its usefulness is gone.'

Search was the largest driver of traffic to the website. Informing the general public was the goal.

For years it worked truly well, with for example traffic spikes around national holidays involving consumption of fish :)

The website had no ads, nor external "social" (tracking) integrations. All information was properly referenced.

It was used and referenced in lots of educational material.

Keeping with the theme of contemplating wtf choices in route planners: here's bahn.de best suggested route for Hamburg - Copenhagen (with a stopover in Odense) for large parts of July.

There's actually a bus and some trains from Odense to Ringsted/Copenhagen but it seems DB refuses to use those.

Also: track works on this route for over 40 days in summer right after a big campaign for international trains. Absolute WTF.
