So, I just unboxed the first C64 I've ever owned. It was too expensive for 16-year-old me in 1982, but the C64U costs the same in real terms and I'm not 16 any more.

It also comes with 128Mb of RAM, a 50MHz CPU (emulated in hardware by an FPGA), 64Gb of various C64 software and demos on a "cassette" (actually a USB drive), and has a bunch of 21st century bells and whistles like wifi and an SD card drive emulator.

Welp, some arsewipe bots are hammering my web server so I've just shut it down. Think I'll leave it off for a while until the bots forget.

Can't be bothered to fix it because that requires learning 20 years or os of new skills and I'm about to go on vacation and it's a semi-abandoned hobby project at this point, no longer load-bearing marketing activity since Google gave up on web search.

(Yes, I am sulking.)

I remember this happening A LOT in 2020: overvalued prices at IPO followed by a brisk tumble and no recovery ever.

SpaceX has a viable rocket business (Kesseler syndrome permitting) but in no way was the IPO price justified and those shares are never going to recover this side of 2050.

Note for non-Brits: Tesco is the biggest supermarket chain in the UK, revenue of nearly £73Bn (roughly US $97Bn/year), a third of a million staff … in a market a fifth the size of the USA. In other words, this is not a corner shop. They're bigger, with more revenue, than Broadcom: if they *really* wanted to play rough, a hostile leveraged buy-out attempt might be on the cards ...
