Have you ever written something which later turned out to be a little too on the nose?
.
I wanted to push the villain of my Desolation books into a place of parody so I could poke fun at him. As I pushed him into villainy, he became more and more believable. In a really creepy way.

Instead, I got to dig down into that kind of person. How they deceive and manipulate. How pathetic their underlying behaviours are.

Fun.

Do you avoid idioms, colloquialisms, or embrace them?

I'll often take them from other cultures and seed them in. I'm writing about the Austro- Hungarian Empire at the moment. Sort of. Alternate history.

Some Hungarian idioms for fun and profit:

Bad Quality: "Below the arse of a frog."
Judgement: "A bird by its feathers a Man by his friends."
Moderation: "Stretch as far as your blanket reaches."

#WordWeavers Who is your most visually stunning character?

Arla from my magic sword thingy (working title): Beleiter Arla Liché was not a young lady who strolled, or wandered, or meandered. She swept into a stride that forced the rest of the world into a run to catch up. A terrifying force in green silk: breeches, long waistcoat, cape and hat.

Although soon it will be Behsaa, but there're spoilers attached to his appearance.

How do you write about places you've never been?

I'm mostly writing about an alien planet at the moment. I sketch maps to keep it all straight in my head., and usually make lots of reference sketches or use reference drawings of flora and fauna, important locations, etc. I like to sketch, but that's about as far as my drawing skills go. For instance, these are pre-fab structures in a compound created on an alien planet.
