Phase Connect is very strange but not for reasons you think.
It acts as a bridge between eastern and western vtubing culture, it's marketed as an idol company but it's closer to vshojo if anything.
Among my JP vtubing friends i've heard the phrase "the corpo for tourists" thrown around here and there, and yeah, that's not too far off, it's a vtuber corpo for people that don't like corpos, it's neither hot nor cold, western more twitch centric vtuber fans can watch Phase Connect and be under the impression they're watching a Japanese style idol company, fans of Eastern vtubing watch phase and see it as a quirky company full of anti-idols. This wasn't very intentional, and the company changes a little every year, but it's very interesting to see how it's niche has formed
