@nprofile1q... I would argue that Action Grot’s main historicizing gesture lies in its name: grotesque. And even then, aside from a squat binocular g, it doesn’t necessarily manifest many of the traits we have come to associate with grotesques, like smallish apertures and inward-pointing terminals. What it does share with grotesques imho is a certain honesty, almost an awkwardness.

I so appreciate DJR’s honesty here; this is extremely relatable:

I’m a fan of this “sliced” genre (e.g., Novarese’s Stop), and of abstraction and experimentation in general, and Megawarp is indeed a lot of fun.
