The 18th edition of the Chicago Manual of Style introduced a couple of changes that I don’t really like. One is capping after colon when introducing a complete sentence, which I find disruptive in running text.

The other is omitting place of publication in notes and bibliography. I imagine that this is due to globalization and other changes in the publishing industry. But I really miss that. I love knowing how things are situated in space and time.

Glad to see Kinross refer to postmodern architecture as “the flimsy, scenographic style of the Thatcherite 1980s”; I always struggled to discern what I should like about it, wondered what I was “missing.” To me it always felt as empty as AI, as shallow as Christian rock.
