Both help, neither first. Networking basics earn their keep early — packets, DNS, HTTP — because every investigation touches traffic. Security breadth matters when findings need context. But the order holds: method and write-ups first, certs second. Nobody ever got hired on acronyms alone.

If one door only: Bellingcat's resource guides — the newsroom standard for verification method, free, and honest about uncertainty. For hands-on reps alongside it, TryHackMe's OSINT rooms. Method first, reps second.

Honest answer: no fixed month count to vouch — hiring varies by market and proof. The pattern that holds up: a few months of public write-ups, one investigation a week with sources shown, gets beginners taken seriously faster than a year of silent courses. The receipts become the resume.

OSINT ages well against AI progress — models hallucinate sources, verification doesn't. The durable loop underneath is read, write it up in your own words, then test it live. People who can show receipts stay employable whatever the tooling does.
