I'm a little better at computers than the average person, maybe, but the skills i use when doing tech support for friends & family is patience and nervous system regulation.

The people ive supported are so panicked/angry/embarrassed when tech isn't working as expected.

I just sit beside them and go through each step, slowly and without anger.

The difference isn't skill, it's the confidence that i'll figure it out no matter how long it takes, so there's no reason to panic.

Hi #digipres friendies. I'm helping an org determine normalization practices for preservation formats. We will only normalize at-risk formats such as proprietary formats, e.g. raw camera files.

I'm curious if folks have read articles or seen a good presentation recently on strategies for achieving this at scale, if institutions are keeping the original files that are unlikely to be accessible later, etc.

Choosing the formats to migrate to is the easy part :) I'm looking for strategy insights.
