Thank you, Kyle. I don't think the loss of our son is something my wife and I will ever fully heal from. We were extremely blessed to have had Hank with us for as long as we did. Our whole world changed. We certainly view and value our time with our loved ones in a whole new way. I appreciate your prayers, they are plenty. Looking forward to meeting you in Spokane some day. :)

Why did I join Aflac?

In 2023 my wife and I adopted our son Hank. We were blessed to have him with us from birth. On his 2-month birthday we found ourselves in the ER. Hank was anemic. After a four day stay in the local hospital, we were told Hank's needs had outgrown their facilities. He needed to be medevacked to a hospital on the other side of the State from us.

Over the next month he got two diagnoses, one for HLH (Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis), and a second for AEL (Acute "Pure" Erythroid Leukemia). I would like to tell you that the world stops when your loved one is diagnosed with Cancer, but the brutal truth of it is that the majority of the world simply doesn't care. You still have bills to pay, and most of us still have a job that we need in order to pay those bills. The majority of Americans can't afford a $1000.00 emergency today. Which means that countless Americans are il-prepared for a multi-month hospital stay, let alone a short hospital stay.

The biggest silent expense of unexpected major medical incidents is the loss of time. When you are in the hospital with your loved one, the last thing you want on your mind is money. You want to be wholly present for your loved one.

My wife and I had savings for about a month and a half at the time Hank was admitted to the hospital. Those savings did not cover as much as one would hope, as our expenses also went up in order for us to stay with our son in the hospital. Travel, gas, eating out (no kitchen in the hospital), and reduced income. Paraphrasing Jack Mallers, "Money is the purest abstract form of our time and energy." It became very clear that we didn't have enough money saved to spend our full time supporting Hank in his fight against cancer. Instead, we had to give up the time and energy with him to work. That way we could make sure he still had a home to go back to.

After a three and a half month stay in the hospital Hank passed away, he was five and a half months old. Not only did we lose any future time with him, we also lost about one and a half months of time because we had to keep working locally while he was confined to the hospital on the other side of the state from us.

We didn't have Aflac at that time Hank was hospitalized. If we had, money would've been the last thing on our minds. We would have just been able to put our time and energy where it mattered most, soaking up as much time with Hank as possible. We would not have missed a month and a half of our son's life. Aflac pays their policy holders money directly when they have claims. As stated earlier, money is "the purest abstract form of our time and energy." Which means that Aflac gives you time, when time matters most.

After what my wife and I went through, it is my goal to give as many people possible the opportunity to protect their time with their loved ones. I quit my eight year long career with that goal in mind. I guess I listened a little to intently to American Hodl whispering, "You can just do things," in my ear.

This is my announcement, I'm in business, in loving memory of my son Hank. If you are living in Washington State, or own a business in Washington State, and are curious about how I can help you protect your time (at little to no cost to your business), please reach out to me. In the meantime, have a blessed day, and remember to savor your time with your loved ones.
