home timeline = posts from people you follow which includes other people's posts they have boosted/retweeted. You can follow people from any instance including cyberia.

known network = posts from every instance that we federate with including mastodon instances and more or less any other instance using software that uses the activitypub protocol. Quality may vary but it's the quickest updating timeline.

People on here frequently interact with people from other instances so another good way to discover other people/instances is to lurk in a thread/conversation and see who's replying.

@Blurry Moon @angel smerti Actually considering using AI for some language learning endeavors since the voice is good enough now that you're not going to learn unnatural speech patterns. You can prompt something like "I know x list of vocabulary, generate a script about y subject of interest such that I will have 80-90% comprehension. Make a list of unknown vocab for reference." and have new, perfectly optimized learning material daily for whatever language you want.
