The main issue behind Bitcoin’s spam war (which has been a conflict since the genesis of the protocol) is belief. In this video we introduce the problem with belief, how it alters culture, consensus, morals and principles. How Bitcoin’s decentralized network relies on abstaining from all kinds of beliefs, relying on direct experience, nodes, and rejecting authority and control via self verification.

Some more examples of how belief alters culture can be found in Mormonism: where the erroneous belief that “dark skin is a curse from God” lead to systemic racism in one of the wealthiest religions on earth all the way until the late 80s. This simple belief eroded Mormon culture and led to the mass exodus in the last decade.

Another prime example is the eugenics movement. The belief here was that human beings are subject to the same cold, mechanistic breeding laws as livestock. If a society helps the poor, the sick, or the disabled survive, it is "corrupting" the human gene pool and halting evolution. This belief created a culture of clinical cruelty. It led to the passage of laws in over 30 US states that forced the sterilization of tens of thousands of citizens deemed "unfit" (including criminals, the mentally disabled, and the poor). It laid the exact intellectual and moral foundation for the Holocaust.

Bitcoin is currently under a similar attack through a social vector: the belief that a few developers can control the consensus mechanism of the network rather than via nodes like Satoshi first implemented. Today the Bitcoin client Knots intends to reverse this and act as a return to the original intention where Bitcoin is seen as a medium of exchange, and the chain is resistant to spam and non monetary data.
