Are there good examples of how to optimally design a program on #Linux that is meant to generally run in userspace, but occasionally requires to execute a root command in a way the user is *not* prompted by polkit every time out of the blue but only once when the program is installed?

A persistent polkit rule looks super icky (I don't see how I could prevent process impersonation, maybe I'm missing sth?). Is there any clean, standardised way for this?

So, uh… I opened #Shelly on #CachyOS to install another browser and the first three recommendations are *all* AI tools.

Not sure how to feel about this. No clue how it's determined with Shelly anyway, but given it's probably based on some statistic (it keeps being like this after restarting Shelly or reloading the repo) it still rubs me the wrong way.

@nprofile1q... Yet AMD is currently finally pushing HDMI 2.1 features. The best assumption I've read so far is that they're going with the clean-room approach, a dedicated team that knows nothing about the standard reverse-engineering it since that's legal.

All my homies hate the HDMI forum.

Also the DP->HDMI adapter I got for 4k120+HDR is either borked or there's some underlying issues with such specs on my system… though since I never had issues like that before with AMD+Gnome I assume it's the adapter. (had a picture for a while before I got colourful snow - in HDR though!)

Guess I better just wait for AMD to fix the shit the HDMI forum created. My card *does* support HDMI 2.1 … :|

Einfach alles an dem vom Casey beschriebenem trieft nach einem reinen Profitmaximierungsversuch. Der Regierung sind die Menschen doch völlig Scheißegal, die sehen in Menschen nur noch nicht voll ausgebeutete Arbeitskräfte… 😔

"Barrieren in den Köpfen abschaffen" ist irgendwie auch genau ein Schritt von "Du bist doch nur Faul" und "Stell dich nicht so an" entfernt. Ob die jemals auch nur einen flüchtigen Gedanken über bspw. Treppen hatten? 🫩

@nprofile1q... @nprofile1q... Es ist bitter das wir längst gut digitalisierte Behörden haben könnten wenn jene die Dinge bestimmen nicht so grenzenlos inkompetent und Lobby-kontrolliert wären.

Stattdessen wird bei Digitalisierung auf das vertraut was Firmen sagen, und das ändert sich nicht nur bekanntermaßen alle Nase lang sondern hat auch wenig mit den Bedürfnissen von Behörden und Bürgern zu tun. Und "eID" ist halt (aus Politikerperspektive) fürs Wahlvieh zu langweilig. Auf einmal "brauchts KI".

@nprofile1q... Woah, du hast noch eine erwischt? Inzwischen steht die ja bei deutlich über 2000€, Scalper haben alles weggekauft. Kleinanzeigen ist voll von denen sowie Betrügern.

Hatte auch überlegt ob ich Quer-Upgrade von meiner Monoblock, baue mir jetzt aber lieber mit dem 3D Drucker eine andere Lösung (Umbau zum 2-Rohr System).
