When you look at the maximalist community as basically a digital prepper community readying for immanent fiat collapse, their priorities and hardliner approaches to self-custody make sense.

Preppers are:

* insular
* self-radicalizing
* unconcerned with social norms
* love gadgets and events where they can sell/buy gadgets
* convinced collapse is likely Soon™ or a foregone conclusion within their lifetime

Its just honestly the most "hate the user" thing I have experienced on nostr. It's literallt a popup that blocks the core experience. And it keeps happening. It forces the user to to understand how the infrastructure works, which is so beyond autistic and dumb, it's infuriating. They are FORCED to think about something they shouldn't have to give a shit about.
