It’s a nicely hyped and packaged version of what’s been achievable for about 6-9 months

I built something similar the summer before last. It had a CHARTER.md instead of a SOUL.md. I did have to add my prompting strategies and tools by hand. (The reasoning chains and such got absorbed by the llms and the tooling got easy since then.)
It would build knowledge graphs on chromadb, build its own agent teams and work flows, etc. I used it to do some research and it was helpful but I didn't think it was worth productizing. (That was probably dumb because manus just sold for like 3b.) I never gave it full access to the shell because that seemed like a bad idea. But basically it was the same kind of thing.
Langchain and crewai were also around a while before I was doing that tinkering and doing something like openclaw with them is just a matter of choice and a little setup.
The whole thing is kind of a gimmick and nice packaging.
