I’m convinced the best way to do it in the wintertime is to have a wood-burning furnace that easily heats the house while windows are open. Gives you red light exposure around the fire place, brings in fresh air and circulation, and gets rid of stale air. Houses are meant to breathe, unlike shift to sterile, air-tight enclosures we see today.
