That’s the tradeoff of sticking to Satoshi’s original vision, & making mining more accessible to regular people.
The problem is that it's not possible to keep it accessible and also secure against a state actor at the same time.
The market needs to outhash the State, so you want the market to have the absolute most efficient hardware possible so that the State can't develop anything better.
