Alright, after watching 5+ hours of Dune part one and two, I’m going to need someone to explain to me why this is a good movie.

Whatever other people are seeing, I am not seeing it.

Maybe, good for wasting time. I didn’t watch it anyways.

For me Dune gives a feeling of being a kid in a candy shop again. It’s the prequel of the command and conquer series (most know for red alert) by Westwood studios. As a young kid it was the first game I couldn’t stop playing against ever more and stronger computer opponents. The storyline in t...

I haven’t seen either film, but I’ve had so, so many moments watching movies like this with friends who don’t understand what Art actually is. But more important is to recognize that “Hollywood” is absolutely a propaganda industry casting a spell of hypnosis over people. I don’t say thi...

thank you!! finally someone says it. it's cliché, full of plot holes and tries so hard to impress with visuals that are just corny and stupid. It's more like a modern Leni Riefenstahl movie than anything else.

😀 IMO DELIGHT FOR FANTASTIC, ADVENTURE MOVIES ARE CONNECTED WITH GENERATION AND AGE. IN MY CASE, FOR AN EXAMPLE: - I WASN'T TOO IMPRESSED BY - STAR TREK - I WASN'T TOO IMPRESSED BY - STAR WARS - I ABSOLUTELY ADMIRE AND LOVE - THE MATRIX, AND NEXT - I WASN'T TOO IMPRESSED BY - THE L...

These films are a rare reason to go to the cinema and enjoy imax today. Watching them in other conditions means missing out on a significant part of the experience.

Havent seen the movies but IMO the first book was okay and then went downhill... i stopped after the 4th

Made even worse by how much everyone says we are supposed to love it
Chris · 127w
Not into sci fi?
vlada · 127w
Have you read the books? Asimov and Frank Herbert are probably to sci-fi what Tolkien is to fantasy.
Deleted Account · 127w
I just watched the first one, considering if spending time on the second one is worth it for me.
Firby13 · 127w
The books are way better.

Viewers can relate to the main character. There is no need for hard work. One can simply be small and youthful while remaining strong enough to overcome larger, stronger, older, and wiser adversaries.

It’s great books and trashy movies. The philosophical depth and character development thats oh so rich in the books is skipped in the movies, so i can not imagine that the films would make any sence without reading books.. I’m sorry for your wasted time, it’s just hype for hypes sake…

Lyn, please FHS, tell me that you watched them on a big screen in a theater ! I can’t explain you why this is a good movie (haven’t seen part 2 yet), but I can tell you that there are huge efforts put in being respectful to the books. Are you acquainted with the David Lynch version ? 💋

The books sukkdikk, I couldn't get into them

Have not seen latest Dune will pass on current. In the original there were a number of solid character examples: the value of heritage and cultivation of heirs, driving to goals, overcoming fear, good over evil, not deviating from mission, etc. Same messages in numerous movies. To save time with l...

Watch it again. Minimum 10,000 hours to become an expert in anything.

I felt the same way after reading the book.

So like, imagine water is bitcoin - There's a fixed supply of water on Arrakis - The Harkonnens are wasteful (very fiat) - The Fremen are thrifty (check out those Stillsuits!) There's a whole thing in the book about how the Fremen are saving all the water (decaliters upon decaliters) to eventually...

i made it like 20 min into the first one and stopped there 😂

Unfortunately lots of context is missing without having read the books already

Lyn I recommend you watch this documentary about the best Dune movie never made. The Jodorowsky's Dune. https://www.amazon.com/Jodorowskys-Dune-Chris-Foss/dp/B00KRIYI3K

Book beats movie every time. However, the cinematography and sound in the movies is epic. The sense of scale is incredible and the contrast sounds between planetary scale objects vs dust trickling over the dunes in quite is just amazing.

What don't you like about it?
Nunya Bidness · 127w
Have you read the book? A lot of this really boils down to those who read the book hoping some human has the ability to bring it to life in a way that not only respects the book but respects that people really want to see the thing they read about. This is the third attempt to bring Dune to life a...

Although far from a masterpiece, I actually enjoyed the first one to be fair. Not desperate to watch the second but will definitely watch it.

Hey Lyn, maybe this Aubrey Marcus podcast can be helpful. Despite your critical observations, you seem to be intrigued at the same time. I remember when I read the books in my teens, I kept on reading although I didn't even understand half of it, haha. It's gloomy, yes. But there's deep beauty woven...
