I was born before the Voting Rights Act. I was born before Roe v. Wade. When I was born living an independent life was purposefully difficult for women and people of color in the white patriarchy, you didn't have the same rights under law as a white man and the society did use that against you. Then things got better over the next few decades for many people, even for LGBTQ people. We had a leap of progress. Some things like pay equality never quite got there, but overall, many repairs were made. We got used to things being better for everyone even if not quite there yet. But during that time regressive right wing extremists of the white patriarchy were plotting and working to set the conditions, such as our current reactionary SCOTUS, to take it all away using religion and bigotry and imaginary law, and their success at that is what we're living through right now. I think most people are disgusted and angered by this, and I hope this lurch backward is just the last gasp of a horrible, dying ideology that we'll overcome within years, not decades. I want to see it happen while I'm still around.
