yeah, fips is cool. it exactly fits in the network transport layer but implementing it would require installing a native app on mobile or a service on desktop. it's the right direction also.

pubky doesn't solve any problems that nostr isn't already better at solving, and mainline DHT network has some big problems. about the only thing that is innovative in pubky is the extension it makes for discovery of relays, which is questionable for privacy anyway, and with mainline DHT not having any kind of sybil protection means that state-level malicious actors can misdirect users relatively cheaply.

Ya, shimming is necessary at this stage, but I don’t see that as a downside. This is incorrect. PKARR (Public Key Addressable Resource Records) need to be signed by the corresponding private key in order to be valid. Even if a state level actor were able to take over the torrent network, they could not forge Ed25519 signatures in order to 'misdirect' users to an unauthorised...
