People also conflate threat models.

If you’re worried about the government, then you shouldn’t be using email - which was captured a long time ago. Even if Proton DID block all governments - including the Swiss - the feds can just go to the other end. Odds are good most of the people complaining receive email from non-proton mail relays. That’s ALL insecure.

IF they were really being genuine, they’d just encrypt their mail content before sending it through proton.

No, the reason you use Tuta or Proton is because you still want/need to use email and you don’t want to be spied on by your provider (like google/microsoft/hotmail). That’s it.

Pretty much. Proton is an excellent defense against advertising and personalized pricing. If your threat model is a individually targeted APT from a TLA no email service can protect you. You are going to need to manually PGP everything before it ever sees a network for a 10% chance of success. 99%...
